Introduction to our Web Site: 

This is the Web site of the SMVV, the IVF team of Voorburg, The Netherlands. We are responsible for more than 6000 pregnancies from In Vitro Fertilisation (in the lay press often referred to as 'test tube babies') and related artificial reproductive techniques, such as ICSI, Egg donation, uterine surrogacy, insemination of donor sperm and more.

This Web- site, with its predecessor, has been in operation since 1996, and as you will see you can select the Dutch, English, German and French section.

Mission statement

The Foundation of Medical Procreation Voorburg (Stichting Medische Voortplanting Voorburg) offers a comprehensive program of artificial reproductive technologies for those infertility patients that have either no- or a negligible chance of becoming pregnant otherwise, and for whom relief through these techniques may be envisaged. From 1985 onwards, IVF and related treatments have been offered in our center and since then more than 4600 babies have been born as a result of these treatments. The foundation has been in existence since 1987. We aim to offer optimal results in terms of healthy babies born in conjunction with a minimal complication rate.

Foundation Profile

Our center houses a team of enthusiastic people that have dedicated themselves to the treatment of infertile couples. We are located in the Diaconessenhuis Voorburg, a hospital that is now part of the Reinier de Graaf Hospital group. All infertility treatments are or were performed in our center including TDI, IVF, ICSI, Oocyte Donation and Uterine surrogacy. These are only performed, however, for strict medical reasons. The program is only meant for infertility patients for whom it is envisaged that treatment may offer hope for their condition.

Languages

As only about 0.003 % of the World population is in command of the Dutch language, we felt our chances of conveying our message were greater this way. As the web site serves different purposes, it will be clear that different languages are imperative.

The English section

The English section is mainly meant for infertility professionals, whilst the main purpose for the Dutch Section is patient information. As such the English and Dutch parts do not contain  the same information and the different sections will not just be translations or transcriptions. The site is not particularly suited for purposeless 'surfing'; the Dutch site aims to give specific information, for those that have a particular wish for knowledge on aspects of ART treatments. 

Of course you may visit all sections, except for the international blastocyst offspring registration, which is only accessible for those that will obtain a code and password. This can only be given to professionals working in the field. In the registration however there is a general section which will be open to the public, and where you will be able to see the overall data. 

De Nederlandstalige Sectie

Het nederlandstalige gedeelte is vooral bedoeld voor patiënten, die wat meer informatie willen omtrent hun voorgenomen onvruchtbaarheidsbehandelingen. Daarnaast zullen ook meer medisch-technische Nederlandstalige artikelen beschikbaar komen. Deze zijn niet zozeer bedoeld voor patiënten, maar voor professionals, hetgeen ook zal worden aangegeven.

Waarom deze Web Site?

Het is duidelijk dat diegenen die deze site bewust bezoeken de vraag niet eens zullen stellen. Voor allen van U zal zal duidelijk zijn waarom.

Voor anderen, die hier misschien toevallig via 'surfen' zijn terecht gekomen: zonder twijfel zal de belangrijkste internationale wijze van communicatie en informatieoverdracht electronisch verlopen. De site bevat informatie, die op zeer verschilende wijze is gerangschikt; daarom is deze niet bedoeld voor doelloos 'surfen'. Als u specifieke informatie zoekt, gebruik dan de zoekoptie.

Die Deutsche Sektion

Auch fur die Deutschen Patienten werden wir einen Deutschspachigen Abschnitt einrichten.  Auf dieser Seite konnen Sie eine kurze Patienteninformation über IVF und andere Unfuchtbarkeitsbehandlungen nachschlagen.

Notre Section Française

La section Française est surtout destinée aux gens laïx qui s'intéressent pour la F.I.V. comme c'est pratiqée à Voorburg aux Pays-Bas. La section Anglaise est d'abord destinéeaux spécialistes de la F.I.V.

Levels of comprehension

Anyone can read this Web- Site, but not everyone will understand everything. In principle this site should be clear to all interested in infertility, regardless of background and level of education, and the site should generally be written in simple terms, understandable for all.

However it cannot be denied that oversimplification sometimes violates the truth. That is why in the near future we will split the site up into three levels of comprehension: basic (understandable at grammar school level), in depth (meant for those with higher level of education) and professional (meant for infertility specialists). On each page you will see a button which indicates the target population.
